Farmer Field School now in Ketapang

24.10.2023

Goodhope’s Farmer Field School achieves another milestone with the launch of its program at Ketapang, West Kalimantan.

Founded in 2019 by Goodhope, Farmer Field School has benefited 269 independent smallholders from Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan in its inaugural program. Then in 2022, when the program resumed after the pandemic, 97 farmers from Central Kalimantan completed the program.

Now, in collaboration with Widya Erti Indonesia (WEI), Goodhope is optimistic that its efforts to educate farmers in sustainable farming practices will contribute to the future sustainability of the oil palm industry. WEI is an Indonesian foundation dedicated to improving the lives of rural and marginalized communities through education and social and economic development.

This month in Ketapang, approximately 100 farmers have registered for the Farmer Field School for sessions on understanding and applying best agricultural practices. These include sessions on recognizing and understanding RSPO and NDPE principles, soil health, integrated pest management, harvest criteria and techniques, crop maintenance, and more.
