Plan and have developed aims and objectives in order to fulfil our

SUBMISSION OF HCV ASSESSMENTS

HCV assessment for Goodhope subsidiaries in Sintang region, West Kalimantan (PT Sinar Sawit Andalan and PT Sumber Hasil Prima) have been completed by assessors from the ecological consultancy firm Re-Mark Asia. The completed report has been submitted to the High Conservation Value Resource Network (HCVRN) for Quality Panel Review, well ahead of the deadline that was set as 31st January 2018.

COLLABORATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT LANDSCAPE PROGRAM IN WEST KALIMANTAN

Goodhope is working with Aidenvironment with the aim of developing and implementing an integrated conservation and land-use landscape management plan in the Ketapang district, West Kalimantan. The aim is to work together with local communities and the West Kalimantan Provincial Government to develop spatial management plans for sustainable alternative livelihood programs that are in line with community aspirations.

The management plan will be based on a review of HCV, HCS and Social Impact Assessments and Community Baseline Surveys incorporating Focus Group Discussions inclusive of all local communities.

Workshop on Legalization of Conservation Areas and Acceleration of Agrarian Reform in Ketapang District

Goodhope was among the private sector companies to participate in a workshop on the importance of land legalization, provision of forest management rights and management of conservation in the Ketapang district, West Kalimantan. The two-day workshop was held in Bogor, on December 5th – 6th 2017 and was coordinated by Aidenvironment. Key issues were presented and discussed relating to the Ketapang district government plans to implement the priorities of the agrarian reform policy, which aims to provide economic equity for all people. The meeting included representatives from The Ministry of Environment and Forestry and The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, from the Ketapang district.

SUBMISSION OF LAND USE CHANGE ANALYSIS (LUCA)

Goodhope has submitted Land Use Change Analysis (LUCA) Reports for its subsidiaries in Sintang region, West Kalimantan. The LUCA reports for PT Sinar Sawit Andalan (SSA) and PT Sumber Hasil Prima (SHP) were completed by the ecological consultancy firm Aksenta and have been submitted to RSPO on 28th November 2017, well ahead of the deadline that was set as 31st January 2018.

Sustainability Journey September 2017 - Issue No.5

This is the fifth issue of our monthly report 'Sustainability Journey' in which we outline our actions in
addressing grievances and our progress in improving our sustainability practices. Key achievements
over the past month include:
• Completion of Land Use Change Analysis (LUCA) of PT Batu Mas Sejahtera (BMS) and PT Sawit
Makmur Sejahtera (SMS) in Ketapang and timely submission of reports to the RSPO Secretariat.
• Completion of HCV and HCS assessments at PT Nabire Baru and PT Sariwana Adi Perkasa in
Papua and public consultations on the results.
• Commencement of HCV and HCS assessments at PT Sumber Harapan Prima and PT Sinar Sawit
Andalan in Sintang.
• Progress in using the RSPO Dispute Settlement Facility (DSF) as a means to conclusively resolve
the complaint by Yayasan Pusaka to RSPO.
• Completion of the review of the Legal Compliance of PT Nabire Baru.
• Participation in collaborative projects that aim to improve practices, including the UNICEF
Children Rights and Business Principles Palm Oil Program.

Goodhope Asia Holdings Ltd wins a Silver Award at the 6th HRM Awards 2014

b2ap3_thumbnail_HRM2014.jpgIn recognition of the Goodhope Group’s quality Human Resource Management practices, Goodhope Asia Holdings Ltd won a Silver Award in the overall category at the 6th consecutive HRM Awards Ceremony held on March 6th, 2015 at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Sri Lanka. 

The HRM Awards 2014 is a biennial event organized since 2002 by the Association of Human Resource Professionals (HRP), whose membership is made up of HR professionals and practitioners from leading organizations in Sri Lanka. This edition of HRM awards was undertaken in collaboration with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which is the largest not-for-profit HR body in the world with over 275,000 members in 160 countries. The SHRM acted as the technical partner for the HRP.

The awards aim to provide a platform for public and private sector companies to evaluate the effectiveness of their human resource management practices against internationally accepted standards and guidelines. The HRM Award is also considered a benchmark for industry best practices for Human Resource Practices in Sri Lanka.

To be considered for an Award, all companies go through a rigorous and stringent evaluation process. A comprehensive preliminary evaluation and screening is carried out by understanding the HR practices, policies and processes followed by the Company covering areas such as HR Strategy, Talent Acquisition & On-boarding, Talent Management, Performance Management, Talent Development, Rewards & Recognition, Work Environment, and Human Resource Operations & HR Metrics.

This is then substantiated by a comprehensive presentation made by the Company followed by an on-site audit undertaken by a team of technical experts from SHRM. The on-site audit includes one-on-one interviews with the CEO, key management personnel and a cross section of staff categories, validation of key HR practices and link to business strategy, and further silent observations on organizational climate and employee behaviors. The observations and findings of the technical experts are presented for the final evaluation process undertaken by an independent judging panel which consists of industrial experts and renown HR professionals with due consideration given to the results obtained during the on-site audits.

In total there are 10 Gold Awards and 10 Silver Awards presented in the Overall Category, while 6 special category based awards are also given to deserving companies.

Goodhope was proud to be a recipient of a Silver award in its first attempt and to be ranked together with other leading Corporates of Sri Lanka. Whilst this land-mark achievement has provided Goodhope a significant stepping-stone to further endeavor its HR vision in truly becoming an “Employer of choice”, adapting, embracing and application of good HRM practices in-line with Goodhope’s HR vision by all management and staff of the Group would enable us to take this recognition to greater heights in the future.

Shalimar (Malay) PLC receives the “Malaysian Palm Oil Industry Award” from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board

A subsidiary of Goodhope Asia Holdings Ltd, Shalimar (Malay) PLC (Shalimar Estate) received the “MPOI Award” from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) for the year 2013/14 under the ‘Best Estate Category (Peninsular Malaysia) - land extent between 40.47 ha to 499 ha’. The award was presented by the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the ceremony held on 19th December at the Palace of the Golden Horses, Mines Resort City, Seri Kembangan, Malaysia.
Goodhope was represented by Mr. Ravindran Palpanathan (Estate Manager) and Mr. Devindran Kanayah (Senior Field Assistant) who received the Award.In total there were 21 awards presented for a variety of categories that recognized Plantation Companies with high levels of performance within Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The selection for an award is based on pre-set criteria for each of the awards decided by the Malaysian Palm Oil Industry (MPOI) Awards Committee and an Assessment Panel of the MPOB.

The criteria for the Best Estate Category included:
a)  Estate has to be the highest yielding for the Calendar year 2013
b) The best maintained estate in terms of overall estate condition including good control on pest & disease and improvement on work method.
c)  Provide good welfare and amenities to employees as stated in the Act 446.

Goodhope receives Membership for the Holding Company from the RSPO

Goodhope Asia Holdings Ltd, the holding company of the Group incorporated in Singapore, has been accepted as an Ordinary Member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) under the category of Oil Palm Growers with effect from 2nd December 2014.

With this Membership all of Goodhope Group’s oil palm plantations will be expected to follow the Principles and Criteria (P&C) of the RSPO.

This Membership further strengthens Goodhope’s commitment to being a sustainable plantation company and brings greater focus on the Group’s inherent practice of following the RSPO Principles and Criteria in managing its business activities.

Three of the Goodhope Group’s plantation companies were already members of the RSPO while two of the Group’s Oil Palm Processing Mills are RSPO Certified.

In Malaysia, two of the Group’s refining facilities are members of the RSPO and have received RSPO Supply Chain Certification.
