Palm oil mill effluent (POME) and Palm oil refinery effluent (PORE) is treated to reduce the chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). The BOD and COD of treated POME are closely monitored and kept well below the legal limits for land application in Indonesia. Any upward trends in either BOD or COD levels are addressed by our POME pond management program, including desilting works and new pond construction.

PORE is treated at the wastewater treatment facility of our Palm Kernel extraction plant and refinery. The effluent undergoes treatment to reduce BOD and COD acidity levels before being discharged to waterways or recycled for cleaning purposes.
